Deze game zou eigen een DLC worden voor Empire Total War maar omdat de content zo groot was werd er een separate game van gemaakt en uitgekomen in 2010 voor zowel Windows als Mac.
In deze game draait het om Napoleon Bonaparte in de het tijdperk 18e & 19e eeuw en speelt zich hoofdzakelijk af in Europa.
Napoleon bevat vier campagnes, waarvan twee volgen vroege militaire loopbaan van Napoleon. De eerste carrière evenement is de Italiaanse campagne van 1796, terwijl de tweede is de Franse invasie van Egypte in 1798 Beide zijn voorzien van kleinere, optionele missies die helpen rijden het verhaal naar voren. De grote Franse campagne, echter, is de zogenaamde "Mastery of Europe", die de holistische vormen van vorige Total War-spellen lijkt. Omgekeerd, de "Campagnes van de Coalitie" staat spelers toe om te regeren Groot-Brittannië, Rusland, Pruisen en het Oostenrijkse keizerrijk en de poging om te verslaan Frankrijk van Napoleon in Europa. Elke grote campagne vraagt spelers om een aantal gebieden te verkrijgen, maar in tegenstelling tot de Empire: Total War, hoeft men niet hoeft te wachten tot het einde van de campagne te worden uitgeroepen tot winnaar. Voor het eerst in de Total War-franchise, slijtage speelt nu een rol in de campagne kaart. Afhankelijk van de locatie, zal legers men door warmte of sneeuw verliezen. In tegenstelling tot Rijk, worden de verliezen een leger heeft op de campagne automatisch bijgevuld wanneer in bevriend gebied. Enkele van de beroemdste veldslagen van Napoleon, zoals Austerlitz, Slag van de Piramides, en Waterloo zijn beschikbaar als historische scenario's, los van de campagne.

De volgende factions zijn speelbaar voor zowel singleplayer als multiplayer:
Austrian Empire - Campaigns of the Coalition and multiplayer (Europe and Italy)
United Kingdom British Empire - Campaigns of the Coalition, multiplayer, and expansion (Egypt, Europe, and the Peninsular Campaign)
France French Empire - Story mode, multiplayer, and expansion (Italy, Egypt, Europe, and the Peninsular Campaign)
Ottoman Empire - multiplayer (Egypt and Europe only)
Prussia - Campaigns of the Coalition and multiplayer (Europe only)
Russian Empire - Campaigns of the Coalition and multiplayer (Europe only)
De speelstyle is nagenoeg het zelfe als Empire Total War met wat uitzonderingen:
. Je kan deze game wel spelen in campaign mode multiplayer (1v1)
. Verbeterde graphics dan zijn voorganger.
. Multiplayer Drop In battle - Je kan een battle joinen via internet als men een single player campaign speelt.
Het is zeker geen RTS waarbij je even snel units bouwt en rushes uitvoert maar het is meer goede diplomatie bedrijven en je land/kabinet tevreden houden. Een positief banksaldo is noodzakelijk in deze game anders wordt je bankroet verklaart. Het opzetten en onderhouden van een leger kost veel geld!.

Deze speciale eenheden kan je gebruiken om je Research te versnellen of andermans technologie te stelen.
SPY:
Een spy heeft diverse mogelijkheden zoals het verkennen van vijandelijk gebied, het ombrengen van andere characters (generaals, gentlemen en andere spies), sabotage van gebouwen, infiltraties om belangrijke informatie te bemachtigen. Het opzetten van een spy netwerk.
Het is een zeer leuk spel met name om de multiplayer campaign te doen.
Je speelt niet met units maar met hele legers en dat geeft toch wel een extra dimensie m.b.t. taktiek en strategie.

Ben je opzoek maar: RTS, Complex, Strategie dan is Napoleon een goede kandidaat.

Ok leuk een multiplayer 1 vs 1 maar wat doen we nou als er meerder spelers zijn dit graag willen spelen. Daar heb ik gisteren het antwoord opgevonden.
Gisteren begonnen met een campaign tegen Sytes. Ik speel met Great Brittain 
en Sytes met Russia 
;). Ik heb het gelijk aan de stok met de Batavian Republic 
rare nederlanders 😉
Update Campaign vs Sytes:
. Engelse troepen zijn aan land gegaan van de Batavia Republic en hebben de stad Antwerpen veroverd. De opmars is tot een halt gekomen aan de Nederlandse Grens na een strijd met de Batavia Republic.
. Engelse spion is doorgedrongen tot Amsterdam.
. Rusland heeft Finland ingenomen na een ongelijke strijd.
. Engelse schepen die op weg waren richting Afrika zijn verslagen op de Atlantische Oceaan door een Spaanse Armada.
. Technologie uitgewisseld met Rusland.
. Overige landen zijn tot op heden niet te porren voor een Alliantie met Engeland.
Gisteren weer de intentie gehad de campaign tegen sytes te vervolgen maar helaas ik kreeg op geen enkele mogelijkheid connectie: :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Ook deze fixes werkt niet:
Typically, issues with multiplayer and online connectivity have to do with local network settings. If you're using a router, a splitter or if you have a modem with internal security measures it is highly suggested that you forward your network ports to allow the game client to receive data packets from the server and from other players. The exact steps to forward you network ports will change depending on the model and make of your router or modem. We suggest you review your user manual or go to the manufacturer's website for detailed guides. Port Forward is also a great site with many helpful step by step guides for a number of routers, as well as lists of which ports need to be forwarded for various applications. If you do not have administrative access to the network you are on then you will need to contact the admin and request they take these actions for you.
For Empire, Napoleon and Shogun 2, you should have the following ports forwarded:
TCP Ports: 4380, 49181, 27000-27050
UDP Ports: 3478, 4379-4380, 49181, 27000-27050
Additionally, it is suggested that you set the game as an exception in your Windows Firewall as well as any other security software you have installed. The exact steps for doing this with third party security software may vary, but for the Windows Firewall you may follow these steps:
Open the Start/Window menu.
Open the "Control Panel".
Set view to "Classic View" or "Small Icons".
Open "Windows Firewall".
Select "Allow program or feature through Windows Firewall"
Browse for the game and add it to the exceptions list.
For third party software, the options should also be under the control panel but further steps may be much different. Some third party security may actually block you access to your firewall settings, forcing you to change all options through the security software itself. If you are unsure how to make changes to your security software, it may be best to review the user guide or go to the developer's site for detailed instructions.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, it's possible that the error is not a connection issue but a software issue. If that's the case, you may want to review this article. Alternatively, if the issue is only occurring infrequently or only inside of matches then the problem could be originating from the host or another player. If that's the case then there isn't much we can do.

Dear customer,
The installation of the game could be corrupted, please follow the instructions below to uninstall both Napoleon: Total War and STEAM:
* Before proceeding please make sure to write down the username and password of your Steam account as you will need them to reinstall afterwards.
1. Launch STEAM
2. Select My Games
3. Right Click on Napoleon: Total War
4. Select Delete Local Content
5. Exit STEAM
* Ensure STEAM is not shown near Notification Area (system clock)
If STEAM is shown in the Notification Area right click on the STEAM icon and select exit.
6. Uninstall STEAM through the Control Panel:
* Windows Vista > Programs and Features
* Windows XP > Add and Remove Programs
7. Once uninstalled go back to the Control Panel and enable Classic View.
8. Select Folder Options
9. Select View
10. From Advanced Settings enable locate Hidden files and folders.
11. Select ‘Show hidden files and folders’
12. Click Ok
Next remove the Creative Assembly folder from the Roaming folder as specified below:
- Windows Vista:
username folder (above Documents) >AppData > Roaming > The Creative Assembly
(Save games are stored in the following folder ‘save_games’ with ‘The Creative Assembly’, store or backup elsewhere if you wish to keep these).
Right click on The Creative Assembly
Select Delete
- Windows XP:
My Computer > C: Local Disk >Documents and Settings > (username folder) > Application Data > The Creative Assembly
Save games are stored in the following folder ‘save_games’ with ‘The Creative Assembly’, store or backup elsewhere if you wish to keep these).
Right click on The Creative Assembly
Select Delete
Next, make sure the Napoleon: Total War registry entries have been removed. While doing the following, please be aware that the Windows registry is a very sensitive part of Windows. Mistakes can render your system unstable so be VERY careful when making any changes. If you are unsure of what to do at any stage, do not proceed and contact us for further assistance.
- Click Start
- Click Run (Windows XP) Click Start Search (Windows Vista)
- At the prompt type: REGEDIT and press Enter. The registry editor will open.
- Click the "+" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
- Click the "+" next to SOFTWARE.
- Right-Click the entry “Valve” and choose delete from the menu that appears
- Choose Yes to confirm deletion
- Click the "+" next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
- Click the "+" next to SOFTWARE.
- Right-Click the entry “Valve” and choose delete from the menu that appears
- Choose Yes to confirm deletion
- Close the Registry Editor
Once done, restart your computer to complete the removal of Napoleon: Total War.
