Uit een interview met EA:
Tournaments arrived earlier this month. You fight the squads of other players who are close to you in rank. Based on the number of points, you can get on the leaderboard and get payouts. Any day now, EA will be launching spaceships. Characters will be assigned to ships, and players will be able to collect Tie Fighters and X-Wing starfighters and other ships.
Leuk!

Greetings Holotable Heroes,

A few weeks back, I let you know that the team has been hard at work on our next major feature: Ships!
In advance of its upcoming release, we wanted to start sharing information about this new part of the game so you can start preparing for its launch. This new feature offers an exciting new mode of gameplay, with new rewards, new activities, new things to collect, new goals to pursue, new strategies to craft and more!

The Ships feature is a major update – our biggest one to date – and so over the coming days and weeks we will be sharing information about different parts of the release.

The first idea we wanted to get in front of you is a new aspect that will influence your entire Ships experience: Fleet Commanders!

FLEET COMMANDERS

Fleet Commanders are the leaders assigned to lead a fleet of ships in space battles. You can think of them as the evolution of the “Leader” spot in unit battle. A fleet is a group of ships which (currently) start with a maximum of 5 ships in play and up to 4 more ships held in reserve as “Reinforcements”. (Much more on all of that in a later post.)

Fleet Commanders will crew their own special capital ships and have unique abilities that can be used over the course of a space battle. The Fleet Commanders will each have a unique set of abilities, as well as the option to call in a Reinforcement on their turn.
Starting Fleet Commanders

At the launch of Ships, there will be three characters eligible to be Fleet Commanders. These characters are already available in the game and are eligible for character battles, but after unlocking the Ships feature they will have the additional option of crewing Capital Ships in fleet battles.

The initial three Fleet Commanders will be:
Admiral Ackbar
Grand Moff Tarkin
Mace Windu

More fleet commanders will be made available in future updates!

Fleet Commander Abilities
Active and Passive Abilities

During their turns, Fleet Commanders will have a set of unique abilities that can affect an entire fleet battle either with buffs, de-buffs, or a variety of dramatic attacks.
They may also have passive abilities which help their allies or hinder their opponents.
Reinforcement

Another option available for the Fleet Commander’s turn, involves Reinforcements. When activated the Fleet Commander can call in a new ship to the battle to reinforce their fleet (this would replace a destroyed ship with one in the player’s reserve roster of ships). A Ship called in as a Reinforcement comes into battle and immediately takes their turn. By strategically assigning Ships to the initial fleet of five, along with holding back other ships in reserve, a clever Fleet Commander can keep their opponents guessing and on their toes.

Hope you enjoyed this quick preview of one of the most important aspects of the new Ships Feature. Be sure to unlock a Fleet Commander (Admiral Ackbar, Grand Moff Tarkin or Mace Windu) to be prepared for the launch of Ships. And stay tuned for more posts as we explore more features of the new Ships update!
One point we wanted to clarify is that during the tutorial steps and events for Ships, players will be given a certain number of shards of Fleet Commanders and blueprints for their Capital Ships, as well as shards for Crew members and blueprints for their Ships. This should be enough to get players at the eligible Player Level (planned currently to be 60) to participate in Fleet Combat. However, the stronger your Fleet Commanders are, the more effective they will be in battle.

Crew

Crew are the Characters assigned to a ship to make that ship useable in a space battle. Some ships only require a single crew member (think X-Wings and TIE Fighters) while other larger ships may require multiple crew members (think the Millennium Falcon). Specifically, there will be between 1 and 5 Crew assigned to a given Ship.

Each ship and crew member share a 1:1 relationship meaning that a crew member is only available to crew a specific ship. Biggs Darklighter will only be assigned to his X-Wing Red Three, for example.

Starting Crew
At the launch of Ships, there will be dozens of ships and crew available. While the ships are not yet out, a majority of Crew characters are already available in the game and are eligible for character battles. Like Fleet Commanders, once the Ships feature has been unlocked they will have the additional option of crewing their Ships in fleet battles.

See below for some examples of Crew characters that will be available at the start of Ships, but we also want to reiterate that these are not the only Crew characters that are available:

Biggs Darklighter and his X-Wing Red Three

Wedge Antilles and his X-Wing Red Two

Empire TIE Pilot and his Imperial TIE Fighter

Ahsoka Tano and her Jedi Starfighter

There are plenty more crew members currently available and more Ships, Crew, Capital Ships, and Fleet Commanders will be made available in future updates!

Klinkt goed 🙂
The initial three Fleet Commanders will be:
Admiral Ackbar
Grand Moff Tarkin
Mace Windu

Ships will be arriving NEXT WEEK!

We’re planning on rolling out the update across November 22nd and 23rd. Some players will be able to manually update their game client on November 22nd, but everyone will be required to update to the latest game version on the 23rd. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours before the update is available in your region.

Now, we aren’t going to leave you with just the date of when you can expect Ships, we’re also going to share the entire list of Ships and their crew that will be available at launch!

Ships and Crew:

Soon after the initial launch there will be more ships coming, including Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced x1.
So now you know the Ships and their crew that will be available next week, but you may be wondering how you can get these Ships and their crew.
When the Ships update launches, you’ll be able to take part in a series of special (and free) Events that will reward the crew and their Ships so that you can take part in the new Ships combat. The first Event in this series will unlock at Player Level 25, and additional ones will unlock every few levels leading up to Player Level 60. If you’re already at Player Level 60 or above, you’ll be able to play through each of these Events sequentially.

The rewards listed below will be given incrementally as you progress in the Events. By the time you complete the series, you will have acquired each of these:
Crew / Ships

Resistance Pilot and Resistance X-wing
Jedi Consular and Jedi Consular’s Starfighter
Imperial TIE Pilot and Imperial TIE Fighter
Clone Sergeant Phase I and ARC-170
