Goed nieuws voor iedere liefhebber van de Fantasy Flight Games FFG boardgame. FFG zal in 2026 de Vault Series starten.

Wat is FFG Vault Series?

FFG Vault” verwijst naar een initiatief van FFG om via crowdfunding per “case-by-case” — oftewel per spel of per titel — oude of “out-of-print / moeilijk verkrijgbare” spellen opnieuw uit te geven.

De bedoeling is dat zulke “Vault Series”-heruitgaven mogelijk nieuwe art, bijgewerkte grafische ontwerpen of verbeterde regelboeken krijgen — terwijl de kern van het spel wél hetzelfde blijft.

Dit houdt in dat i.p.v. FFG spellen produceert of laat produceren voor de Retail Markt nu de vraag naar deze betreffende spellen via een Crowfunding principe verzameld en dan pas produceert. Dit is voor FFG wel een WIN/WIN want je hoeft als FFG geen hoge voorraden aan te leggen en je weet precies per titel hoeveel je weg kan zetten.

Nu is de de grote vraag welke spellen worden via Crowd Funding dadelijk aangeboden. Het zullen met name spellen zijn waarvan FFG de licentie heeft zoals Arkham Horror, Starwars en andere IP's. Spellen waarvan FFG niet de licentie heeft zullen hoogstwaarschijnlijk niet worden aangeboden. Denkend aan bijvoorbeeld:

We gaan het zien ! en misschien lukt het nu wel om je gewenste boardgame of expansion te krijgen.

Na lang overwegen toch besloten om Madness of Mansion 2nd edition toe te voegen aan mijn Arkham Horror Board/Cardgame collectie.

Wat is Mansion of Madness 2nd edition?

Mansion of Madness (MoM)(2016)  is een app driven klassieke dungeon crawler in de wel bekende Arhham Horror wereld . Met de bekende Investigators uit de Boardgame/Cardgame ben je nu bezig mysteries aan het oplossen.

Waar Arhkam Horror - the Boardgame   zich richt op de stad Arkam en waarbiij Eldritch Horror (niet in bezit) zich richt in op de wereld speelt dit zich af in een gebouw of een specifieke gebied binnen de stad Arkham. De Cardgame even buiten beschouwing gelaten.

Daarnaast heb je ook nog de mogelijkheid om extra DLC's te downloaden voor meer content.

Bij MoM 2nd edition komt ook een conversion kit zodat je content/characters kan gebruiken van de uit 2011 uitgekomen Mansion of Madness 1e edition. Deze is versie is nog met een klassieke Dungeon Master.

De Conversion Kit voor Mansions of Madness (1st Edition → 2nd Edition) is een set kaarten die gemaakt is om alle onderzoekers en monsters uit de eerste editie van het spel bruikbaar te maken in de tweede editie.

Wat zit er in de Conversion Kit?

Kaarten voor alle onderzoekers uit 1st edition, zodat je die personages in 2nd edition kunt spelen.

Kaarten voor alle monsters uit 1st edition (en uitbreidingen), met de juiste statistieken en eigenschappen voor de 2e editie.

Waarom bestaat de Conversion Kit?

Toen Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition uitkwam, veranderde het regelsysteem sterk (o.a. door de app). Veel spelers hadden al veel monsters en mini’s uit 1st edition. Met de Conversion Kit hoef je geen nieuwe mini’s te kopen — je kunt gewoon je oude set blijven gebruiken.

Maar deze poll en dit topic gaat over Gloomhaven, Jaws of the Lion (2020). Het is een prequel op Gloomhaven waarbij je een mercenary speelt in de Jaws of the Lion guild in de stad Gloomhaven.
JotL gebruikt hetzelfde spelprincipe als Gloomhaven maar biedt een zeer goede introductie om het spel te spelen (zowel JotL als Gloomhaven zelf).
De eerste 5 scenario's leren op een prettige manier alle regels van het spel.
Het is een kwestie van spel opzetten, de introductie (voor)lezen en beginnen. In ieder scenario leer je weer wat bij.

Grote boardgame reviewers als 'The Dice Tower' en 'No Pun Included' zijn dan ook razend enthousiast over Gloomhaven, Jaws of the Lion. Zowel over het spel zelf als over de opzet als prequel om het 'grote' Gloomhaven te ontdekken.

Sinds kort is JotL toegevoegd aan de spellenverzameling. Als er interesse is, dan wil ik graag een 'Welkom in de wondere wereld van Gloomhaven' organiseren.
Eén (soort van) nadeel. Zowel Gloomhaven als Jaws of the Lion zijn bedoeld voor 1-4 spelers.

Maladum Dungeons of Everon is een campaign based dungeon crawler voor 1 tot 4 spelers (8 met uitbreiding) voor solo play, cooperative play, team play en Dungeon Master play.
Het bijzondere aan Maladum is dat het gespeeld wordt in een 3D speelomgeving. Muren, doorgangen, deuren, obstakels, kratten, kisten, tientallen meubels etc. etc.
De loot die je vindt haal je ook echt uit een gesloten kist of krat. Op een playerbord is echter wel beperkte plek voor je uitrusting en loot

Maladum is weer een mooie aanvulling op de STA verzameling staat op de nominatie om op termijn in STA verband te spelen.

Gloomhaven heeft een paar unieke spelelementen:

• Er worden geen dobbelstenen gebruikt! Op basis van skill kaarten kan een karakter een actie uitvoeren met o.a. een basis damage. De definitieve damage wordt bepaald door damage cards met een waarde van -1, 0, 1, +1, X0, X2. Het deck damage cards  van een karakter kan gedurende het spel aangepast worden (bijvoorbeeld bij een Curse komt er een x0 kaart bij en bij een blessing een x2)
• Ieder karakter heeft een 'levensdoel' als gedurende het spelen een karakter een levendoel gehaald heeft, dan gaat het karakter met 'pensioen'. Er wordt dan ook een nieuwe karakter geïntroduceerd waarmee verder gespeeld kan worden

Asmodee Digital heeft het aangedurfd om een om van Gloomhaven een digitale variant te maken (ook voor 1 tot 4 spelers).
Een hele opgaaf en ik denk dat ze daar heel goed in geslaagd zijn.
Onlangs was Gloomhaven digital een gratis Epic game.
Doodzonde als je niet van die aanbieding gebruik hebt gemaakt want het is, in mijn ogen, een perfecte port van het bordspel.
Het heeft de zelfde sfeer en, gelukkig, het is, net als het bordspel, een zeer uitdagend spel geworden.
Je raust niet zomaar door een level. Het is echt zwaar nadenken en de juiste skill cards gebruiken en de juiste combinaties vinden in de situatie waarin je karakter zich bevind.

This expansion comes packed with new content for this terrific game, more than doubling the number of cards in the game and featuring more of everything that made the base game so special, as well as some exciting new features for you to enjoy. With more encounters to confront, more things to do, and more characters to meet (and play as), this expansion is an absolute must-have for any fan of Outer Rim.

Across the Core

Perhaps one of the most significant features added in Unfinished Business is the addition of the Core Worlds to the game board.

These take the form of two new endcaps on the board that, in addition to containing new planets to encounter, also function as quick travel points that let players skip from one end of the board to the other. Each Core Worlds encounter card, like the other planetary encounter cards in the game, has two possible encounters: one for the Core Worlds themselves, and one for traveling Across the Core. When you encounter a Core Worlds space, you decide which of the two options you’d like to encounter before drawing your card, then resolve that option.

Traveling across the Core can save you a lot of time, but it also comes with some risk. The Core Worlds are under the control of the Empire, and if you have negative reputation with the Imperials, then you can expect some difficulty when flying across the Core.

Familiar Faces

The base game for Star Wars: Outer Rim already had a plethora of iconic characters in its playable roster, and Unfinished Business rounds them out even further. Where characters like Chewbacca , Dengar , and Hera Syndullawere merely contacts before, now they are fully playable characters in their own right. There are also some characters that weren’t in the base game at all, such as Cad Bane .

In a similar vein, new contact tokens and databank cards have been added to make the characters from the base game encounterable as well. You can even gain the likes of Han Solo and Boba Fett as crew (so long as they aren’t being played by another player).

Here is an example of a new databank card for Boba Fett, one of the playable characters from the base game, now in crew form.

This not only makes the Outer Rim feel more expansive and lived-in, but also creates some interesting opportunities for player interaction when you receive a bounty for another player’s character. Whenever a contact token of a player’s character is revealed, it is immediately discarded, so you won’t be able to use that token to fulfill a bounty for that character. Instead, you will have to enter combat with that player and win if you want to collect on the bounty. The rewards for player bounties are different from what’s printed on the cards; you will always gain money and fame, but you can also gain reputation with any faction that the target has negative reputation with (and lose reputation with any faction they have positive reputation with).

This, of course, just scratches the surface of the new content and new means of player interaction added to Star Wars: Outer Rim with this expansion. You can look forward to new ships, new jobs, new market cards, new encounters, and an expanded single-player mode as well!

New Ways to Play

In addition to more of everything that made the base game so great, Unfinished Business also brings new optional rules to the table that can enhance the experience of Star Wars: Outer Rim even further. The first of these rules is the ability to give favors to other players.

A debt token, used to represent the promise of a future favor.

When playing with this optional rule, each player begins the game with a debt token, which, like credits, can be traded at any time during the game. At any point later in the game, you can request a favor from another player, offering them credits or the promise of a future favor in return. This favor can take multiple forms, such as gaining one of that player’s skills for a test or being endorsed by that player for a faction they have positive reputation with (and thus treating your own reputation as positive as well). While your opponents can choose to refuse your request for a favor, if you have another player’s debt token, then you can give that token back to them to force them to grant your request. Having someone owe you a favor really is a powerful boon!

The other optional addition to the game is ambitions.

When playing with ambitions, you no longer win just by gaining the required amount of fame; you must also complete a series of goals (determined by your own ambition sheet) in order to win the game. Playing with ambitions provides a strategic direction for you to pursue during the game and a unique story arc for your character’s career, and it also creates more climactic endings to the game.

Both favors and ambitions are fantastic additions to the game and provide serious ways of shaking up the gameplay. Just be careful—once you play using one or both of these optional rules, you may find yourself never wanting to play without them again!

Business as Usual

Star Wars: Outer Rim was already a phenomenal board game that provided hours upon hours of exciting adventures for players around the world. Now, with Unfinished Business adding more content and expanding upon what made the base game so great, it seems that the legend of this game will only continue to grow. You can look forward to once again flying through the Outer Rim when Unfinished Business lands in stores this summer!
