Er komt een boardgame van Elden Ring. Het spel wordt gemaakt door een samenwerking tussen Bandai Namco en Steamforged Games. Bandai Namco is de uitgever van Elden Ring en boardgame ontwikkelaar Steamforged werkte eerder aan de Darks Souls boardgame. Steamforged zou je verder kunnen kennen van hun Horizon Zero Dawn, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter en andere bordspellen.

Volgens Steamforged zal de Kickstarter campagne binnenkort beginnen. We weten op dit moment nog niet wat de mechanics van de boardgame zullen zijn. We weten wel dat het mogelijk wordt om het spel met één tot vier spelers te spelen. Deze Tarnished spelers zullen iconische locaties uit de gigantische Elden Ring wereld bezoeken en dus afreizen naar The Lands Between.

Spelers zullen de strijd aan gaan met vijanden en bazen uit de game. Die gevechten worden "zonder dobbelstenen" gedaan en spelers moeten dus strategie en aanpassingsvermogen gebruiken om vijanden te verslaan. We weten al dat Godrick Soldier en de Grafted King in de game zullen zitten."

In 2018 was er een Kickstarter voor de Dark Souls boardgame. Deze haalde in drie minuten het benodigde bedrag.

Activision Blizzard heeft zojuist bekendgemaakt dat Diablo 4 gepland staat om uit te komen in 2023. Daarnaast heeft de ontwikkelaar laten weten dat het vijfde speelbare personage van de actie-RPG de Necromancer zal zijn. De game zal daarbij ook nog uitkomen op vorige generatie consoles, met cross-play en cross-progressie.

Naast de Necromancer kun je spelen met de Barbarian, Sorceress, Rogue, en Druid. De Necromancer is een klasse die gebruikmaakt van de ondoden en volgens Blizzard zal deze versie van de Necromancer geheel nieuwe vaardigheden hebben. Ze gebruiken de Book of the Dead, waarmee ze de doden op kunnen roepen en ze op kunnen offeren om levenskracht terug te krijgen.

Diablo IV zal geen lineaire progressie bevatten, waardoor iedereen zijn avontuur anders kan zijn. De ontwikkelaar zegt ruim 150 dungeons te hebben in de game en je zal een grote impact hebben op de wereld met de beslissingen die je neemt. Je kunt natuurlijk ook weer samen spelen met je vrienden en dat zal ook nodig zijn, aangezien er grote world events zullen zijn waarin je moet vechten tegen grote vijanden.

City of Heroes – Paragon Chat

Rumors have persisted about a City of Heroes private server since before the game ever shut down. In the early days, it was a supposed Issue 1 early release version of the game. But that never really came to be. It wasn’t until Paragon Chat was released in 2015 that City of Heroes refugees were truly able to return to the city of heroes. But there are some things you should know before you go off in search of the installation files. There is no combat in the game, and there likely never will be. The lack of combat means that Paragon Chat is great for nostalgia trips through the various zones and a fantastic place for people to roleplay, but that’s all. With that being said there is a team of event planners hosting regular costume contests, and it’s a great place to reconnect with your old friends. Paragon Chat also gets new patches every couple of months introducing new twists on seasonal events, badges, and a few powers. Most of the powers are travel related including Recall Friend, Energy Flight, and yes, regular flight too.

Earth & Beyond – Net-7

Once, long ago there was a beloved game owned by EA called Earth & Beyond. Anyone familiar with EA knows the next part of the story, Earth & Beyond got shut down. This shutdown happened at just the right time for the players to move on to a new MMO…City of Heroes. Yeah, it must be tough having had two amazing MMOs shut down on you. The good news is that just like you can jump into City of Heroes today you can also play Earth & Beyond. Net-7 is an Earth & Beyond emulator that has been running for many years now. The server population isn’t amazing, in fact we suggest if you want to really experience the game you bring some friends with you. But, if you enjoyed Earth & Beyond in the old days Net-7 is a fantastic trip down memory lane.

Lego Universe – Darkflame Universe, LUNI Server, LU Reborn

Not to throw any shade around but Lego Universe was by far the best of all online Lego games that have ever been released. It had THE Patrick Stewart narrating, which automatically makes it insanely cool. Lego Universe is so cool in fact that there are three prominent emulation servers in the works, each with their own pros and cons. LU Reborn openly states that their game has major issues. These issues are being worked on of course, but such things are slow going and there’s no guarantee they will be able to fix them all. The most professional looking and seemingly best server is Darkflame Universe. They’re currently in limited alpha testing though the most recent alpha test was delayed for personal reasons. Hopefully, that will be up and running again very soon as it seems like the most viable of the three.

Star Wars Galaxies – SWG Awakening, SWG: Legends, and many more

When you’re talking about beloved games that died too soon there are two games mentioned more often than any others, City of Heroes and Star Wars Galaxies. We’ve already gone over the private server situation for one, so it’s time to look at the other. If you go to the SWG subreddit you’ll find a list of 17 different Star Wars Galaxies servers which all vary slightly. SWG Legends is perhaps the biggest and best of them all. It has the majority of the game as well as a high population. There are others with custom planets, some that have Jedi enabled and are pre-CU, and even a specifically European server. But when it comes to a thriving private server you need a population to keep things running well, that’s why more than any others SWG Legends may be the best.

Warhammer Online – Return of Reckoning

We’re not saying that EA has a problem with keeping online games running buuuut…here’s the second one on our list, Warhammer Online. In the last couple of years, Return of Reckoning has appeared on the scene. They say that they’re still in alpha and there are regular updates to improve the game. It also has quite a decent population for a private server, with hundreds of people logged in, even in the middle of the night in North America. The server holds events and the devs are incredibly active. They have a priority list of things to work on and they even post dev diaries to keep players informed about the state of the game and what they’re working on. Stability does seem to be a bit of an issue but the team are making it their number one priority this year so hopefully, that will be sorted out soon. PvP and RvR are active on the server so if that was what attracted you to the game the first time around, enjoy.

Vanguard Saga of Heroes – VGOEmulator

In January of 2014 SOE, who were still SOE back then and not Daybreak, announced that they would be shutting down 4 of their MMOs, one of them was Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. At the time, SOE faced a lot of backlash. Little did we know at the time that this was only the beginning. Thankfully VGOEmulator is there to save the day. The server isn’t the most stable and it’s far from feature complete. It also doesn’t really have much of a population. The website and forums seem almost abandoned. That’s because most of the discussion about the server has moved to the IRC. Yes, people do still use IRC. So while it may not be the best private server on this list it is Vanguard fan’s best chance to log in and play the game again.

Microsoft maakt Windows 11 vanaf maandag beschikbaar. Het bedrijf start daarmee de gefaseerde distributie van het besturingssysteem. Halverwege 2022 moet iedere Windows 10-pc die in aanmerking komt voor Windows 11, de upgrade aangeboden hebben gekregen.

Gebruikers van Windows 10 kunnen vanaf maandag via Windows Update controleren of Microsoft Windows 11 als update aanbiedt. Ook is de installatie via de installatie-assistent of de ISO vanaf 4 oktober mogelijk. Via de PC Health Check-app kunnen gebruikers vooraf controleren of hun systeem in aanmerking komt.

Microsoft maakt gebruik van het updatemechanisme die het ook voor Windows 10-updates inzet. Dat betekent dat het om een gefaseerde distributie gaat en systemen waarbij Microsoft de minste problemen verwacht, als eerste aan de beurt komen. Zo meldt het bedrijf dat in ieder geval nieuwe systemen die nog met Windows 10 geleverd worden, als eerste in de rij staan voor een upgrade. Daarnaast komen vanaf maandag ook de eerste systemen beschikbaar die direct met Windows 11 geleverd worden.

De release op 4 oktober markeert de start van de ondersteuningsperiode van 24 maanden voor de Home-, Pro-, Pro for Workstations- Pro Education-edities. Die periode beslaat 36 maanden voor de Enterprise- en Education-edities. Beheerders kunnen met Endpoint Manager controleren in hoeverre hun organisaties gereed zijn voor de overstap, om vervolgens upgrades via Windows Server Update Services, Windows Update for Business en het Volume Licensing Service Center in gang te zetten.

Windows 11 21H2, zoals de versie voluit heet, bevat tal van vernieuwingen tegenover Windows 10. Zo is het startmenu in het midden in plaats van links gezet en toont dit geen Live Tiles meer. Met Snap Layouts en Groups kunnen gebruikers vensters snel in een helft of een hoek van het scherm plaatsen. Skype is vervangen door Teams als communicatietool en er is een weergave met widgets die gepersonaliseerde feeds kunnen tonen. Ook nieuw zijn Auto HDR, om sdr-games een hdr-weergave te bieden bij gebruik van een ondersteunde monitor, en de opslag-api DirectStorage, die een versnelling van laadtijden moet bieden. De aangekondigde komst van Android-apps in de Microsoft Store komt op een later moment.

Gameplay Features:

This high-level overview document will introduce you to the gameplay and major features of Company of Heroes 3. As we work towards an Alpha build, we'd like your feedback to help guide our decisions around feature development, content changes, and core gameplay improvements. 

In the summer of 1943, the Allies launch Operation Husky, starting a thrust to remove Italy from the war and weaken the Axis. The Allied forces, composed of American and Commonwealth troops (alongside international allies), engage in a long and arduous campaign that, despite the surrender of the Italian Army, will last well into 1945. As a player, will you recreate history or redefine it? Make the hard decisions that leaders made by choosing who, where and how to deploy companies. Lead your soldiers into battle and make them heroes. 

Here is our vision statement that we are using to inform and shape the game we want to build: 

Why are these vision points important? 

Tactical Company of Heroes 1 Gameplay 

• This is important to us both as a reference to the gameplay pacing and quality target we are striving for, but also as a response to what our fans are asking for. The core experience of CoH1 has stood the test of time, and we want to bring it back with targeted improvements and some exciting new gameplay mechanics. 

Dynamic Campaign Map 

• A non-linear, decision-filled dynamic campaign map is a natural evolution for the Company of Heroes series. This new strategic layer provides more opportunities for player choice, diverse campaign experiences, and dynamic, unpredictable missions.  

Mediterranean Theatre Brought to Life 

• A new theatre of battle brings new terrain, new combat dynamics, improved gameplay and new factions. Our goal is to deliver an experience that could only be realized in the Mediterranean; soldiers from all over the world fight in the most diverse environments Company of Heroes has ever seen. 

Game Modes 

While we can’t announce everything just yet, Company of Heroes 3 will offer the core experiences we know strategy players want:
 

• A deep, re-playable single-player mode full of choice, progression, and non-linear exploration. 
• Single-player and cooperative skirmish modes. Play against challenging AI, alone or with friends, on diverse battlefields modified by many custom-game options. 
• Competitive multiplayer. Select your battlegroup and face off against other players on tightly balanced 1v1 maps all the way up to sprawling 4v4 battlefields. 

Development Pillars

Company of Heroes 3 is being developed under new circumstances for Relic. In addition to working with upgraded tools and technology, our creative processes have changed. 

Community Engagement 

• From day one, the team has relied on input from fans. We chose our theatre, factions, game modes, and more, with input from devoted Company of Heroes players. Over the last four years, our “Community Council” has grown, played early versions of the game, and provided vital feedback. 

Player Choice 

• Company of Heroes has often told exciting stories via immersive missions and cinematic sequences. This time, create your own stories by playing your way. While our narrative will introduce you to important characters and conflicts, the campaign is yours to shape. Make strategic choices that influence your allies and enemies, affect missions and skirmishes, and empower your companies. 

Improved & Expanded 

• It may sound obvious, but we want Company of Heroes 3 to be the best game in the franchise’s 15-year history. We’re trying to achieve this by improving key gameplay mechanics, dialing up the fidelity of our armies and environments, overhauling our destruction systems, and above all respecting what fans love about Company of Heroes. Our revered tactical gameplay is back, improved and expanded. 

Game Features 

We’ll now give you a glimpse at a few key features of Company of Heroes 3. This isn’t an exhaustive list, and we won’t dive deep at this point, but you’ll learn much more in subsequent posts. 

Factions 

Company of Heroes 3 will launch with more playable factions than any previous title in the series. While some factions such as the US and Wehrmacht forces have appeared in previous games, each army’s roster and their mechanics are quite different this time. We’re also including vehicles, weapons, and abilities that are brand new to the franchise, including many that feature Italian soldiers and technology.

Core Gameplay 

The exciting tactical gameplay of Company of Heroes returns with many improvements. Core mechanics like cover, suppression, and True Sight have been refined, while our garrisons and building destruction are vastly improved. New vehicle armor mechanics augment the value of flanking, and updates to terrain sight-blocking and shot-blocking create more realistic combat; Italy’s verticality gives players plenty of opportunity to take the high ground and fire down on opponents to gain an advantage. Additionally, we have added new tools to deal with troublesome enemy-occupied buildings, such a breach – a cinematic means to evict the enemy and take a building for yourself.

Dynamic Campaign Map 

The biggest addition to Company of Heroes 3, the dynamic campaign map, reshapes the single-player experience into a reactive, player-driven narrative based on strategic choices, non-linear exploration, and nuanced interactions with allied commanders who need your help to achieve their goals. 

Campaign Companies 

On the dynamic campaign map, order companies to secure key cities, ports, and airfields. Improve and customize your companies with powerful upgrades and abilities. Deploy American Airborne and Special Forces companies, British Artillery and Armoured companies, and many more. 

Veterancy 

As before, squads can earn veterancy in combat to unlock powerful abilities and buffs. Deal damage to enemies to gain experience and rank up. Preserve veteran squads for a distinct advantage in the late game. Veterancy also plays a role on our dynamic campaign map, but that’s a topic for another time. 

Battlegroups
In multiplayer and skirmish modes, select from a set of battlegroups that feature devastating abilities. Call in Airborne Paratroopers or Luftwaffe Fallschirmjager. Call in a barrage from 25-pounder artillery or a Stuka bombing run. Deploy a hulking Churchill or Tiger tank to crush the enemy’s defensive line. Battlegroups are focused, balanced, and curated. Every player has access to the same weapons of war. 

Multiplayer Gameplay
Company of Heroes 3 will launch with more maps than any previous game. Our maps cover a variety of locales and have been developed in collaboration with community map makers to ensure a balanced experience.

Over the course of your trials and travels throughout Luclin, the ever present threat of the Shissar loomed large all around you.  Adventurers, you never faltered in your search and through perseverance and martial prowess, you discovered that Vah Shir spirit magic could be the key to defeating Emperor Ssraeshza but that using it may come at a great cost. 

You met with The Duality, imploring them for aid in finding the suitable sacrifice and plumbed the depths of Vex Thal in a search for more information to bring down the Emperor.  It was there you discovered Ssraeshza doesn't just sit upon a throne within it, he sits upon the celestial throne, in the Plane of Shadows.

Directed to challenge Aten Ha Ra, you claimed her last breath of kaas, a metaphysical item that should protect mortal flesh from being torn asunder in the Plane of Shadows. You, stretched beyond even your own limitations, bringing down the priestess of Luclin. Retreating to tend to your wounds and rest you met with Al'Kabor, one half of the Duality, assured by them that you and your companions would be alerted when the Duality is ready to move forward with the offering to the Feral Spirit and the attack upon the Plane of Shadow. The final step in your efforts is almost complete, you return to the lands of Luclin to become even more powerful. 

Now, you are summoned to Shar Vahl to find Head Scholar Nabihan awaiting your arrival. The Duality has sent her with the perfect item for an offering of this magnitude; the Coalescence of Life -- the fabled item said to have the power to restore life. Join Hymnist Wadakha and offer the item in a ceremony to The Feral Spirit at the Whisperling Falls in Shadeweaver's Thicket. The tendrils of magic and spirit combine, on this last step of your journey. Will Sahteb Mahlni give you the power you need? Can you contend with Emperor Ssraeshza on the Plane of Shadow and become wielders of shadowbane? Ready thyselves Adventurers it's time to steel thy will.

Paradox Interactive just wrapped up their ‘Paradox Insider’ event on Twitch, which was in association with MIX’s Game Dev Direct. We’ve already had announcements regarding Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris, even Surviving Mars, but the strategy game publisher kicked things off by announcing their plans for PDXCon this year.

PDXCon is the fan gathering the company hosts every year, although the current global health crises has made physical gatherings in general quite difficult. This year the events team at Paradox decided that they will be hosting a free, digital-only event in May called PDXCon Remixed.

As with past face-to-face events, there will be new announcements, panels and press sessions looking at their 2021 slate in more detail. Paradox CEO Ebba Ljungerud wouldn’t reveal any details, but she did confirm that there would be an announcement regarding a new game from Paradox Development Studios. For those who don’t know, that’s essentially the primary studio behind grand strategy games such as Stellaris and Imperator: Rome. That’s right, it’s an announcement of an announcement!

Victoria 3? Victoria 3.

It could also be Europa Universalis 5, as that would be the next one in line if we’re looking at the release order of the previous generation of grand strategy games. Stellaris 2 could be an outlier; that game has gone through some significant changes and some might feel a sequel is needed to reconcile the current state with legacy design choices.

Or we could be looking at a new IP – Imperator: Rome was released in 2019 and has had a very rocky road, but it sold well enough to keep the dev team working on it, and the recent 2.0 update has really given it a new lease of life. Victoria 3 is the current meme request.

Het zou mooi zijn dat eindelijk Victoria 3 gaat komen. Victoria speelt zich af tussen de tijdsperiode 1830 tot 1936 en past precies voor Hearts of Iron IV en na Europa Universalis IV. Terwijl Hearts of Iron echt vooral de WOII is met als focus oorlog voeren en Europas Universalis meer op economie, religie en vormen van landen en naties is Victoria vooral gericht op industralisatie en kolonalisatie met als zwaartepunt de Civil War in de VS en de 1e wereld oorlog.

Het laatste deel van Victoria stamt al weer uit augustus 2010 en is dringend toe aan een opvolger. Mocht inderdaad zo zijn dat Victoria deel 3 wordt aangekondigd dan wordt het een PRE ORDER :).
