Step-by-Step Guide to Transferring Characters - 04/20/2011

Prepare to make the jump...for free! Join up with old friends or make new ones with the new Free Character Transfer Service starting April 26, 2011!

Free Character Transfer Service will begin Tuesday, April 26, 2011 after the 4am PDT server restarts. Once the servers are unlocked players will be able to log in and take advantage of Free Character Transfer.

To be eligible for free transfer, characters must be at least 90 days old and must be on your active Star Wars Galaxies account in good standing.After a character transfers for free, that character must wait at least 90 days before it can be transferred to another qualifying server for free again.

Characters will not be able to transfer to the Starsider galaxy, but characters from Starsider will be able to transfer off of that server to another galaxy.

To complete a transfer, log in to the character you wish to move and complete the process in-game. There are detailed instructions below. Join old friends and build new alliances in the fight for the fate of the galaxy!

Step-by-Step Guide to Transferring Characters

In-Game Transfers

All transfers in the Free Character Transfer Service happen in-game. To begin the process, starting on April 26, log in to the character that you wish to move. Each time you log in, if your character qualifies for the Free Character Transfer Service (FCTS), the FCTS window will display automatically. You can add a reminder for this window if you would like to transfer at a later time.

Make sure your character is located on one of the original 10 ground planets at the time of your transfer request to perform a server transfer. The original 10 ground planets are Corellia, Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor, Lok, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Tatooine, and Yavin 4.

After you ensure you are on one of the ground planets listed above, use the FCTS window when you log in or simply type /freects into your chat window to begin the transfer.

If you are ready to begin the transfer process, click the appropriate option to begin. If you are not ready to begin, there are options for that as well.

Next, a window explaining the Guidelines and Restrictions will appear.

Be sure to read through the Guidelines and Restrictions, even if you have already done so elsewhere, just to make sure you are aware of everything that is covered in the transfer process.

After reading the Guidelines and Restrictions, a window asking you to select your destination server will appear. Select the destination server from the window and click "Next."

As a reminder, all servers are eligible to transfer from, and all servers but Starsider are eligible to transfer to.

If your name is already taken on your chosen destination server, a window will appear asking you to select a new name.

Enter a new first name and last name in this window and click Next. After successfully selecting a new name, a window will appear to confirm your name selection.

Be sure to read this warning! This window explains everything one more time just to make sure you understand the Terms and Conditions of your free character transfer.

Once you've read the warning and selected "Next," you will be taken to the Free Character Transfer Service Confirmation Window.

Double-check that all information in this window is correct. Once you've reviewed the confirmation, click "Transfer" and your character is ready to transfer! You will have to wait at least two hours before logging back in for the changes to take place, but once that time is up you will find yourself on your new galaxy.

Please note! To prevent issues with a transfer, please close the game immediately after completing the transfer process and do not log into ANY character on that account for at least TWO HOURS after transferring.

Unlocked Slot Transfers

For those with an unlocked character slot, below is a simple guide to transferring that character.

Let us assume that you have the following characters on Starsider:

Luke [Unlocked Slot]
Leia
Han

Since you love all of these characters, you'd like to transfer all three of them from Starsider to Flurry, where you have two open character slots.

Here is the process for that transfer:

Transfer Starsider.Luke to Flurry.Luke (or whatever name is chosen for the Flurry character) with the /freects command.
Then type /occupyUnlockedSlot with Flurry.Luke (or whatever name is chosen for the Flurry character).
Transfer Starsider.Leia to Flurry with the /freects command.
Transfer Starsider.Han to Flurry with the /freects command.

This Service may end or be modified at any time without prior notification. There will be no "retroactive" moves of items, structures, pets or credits (including anything that may have been in the character's bank) for characters that were moved as part of the "Character-Only Transfer Without Items Service" before it may have been modified to allow for character moves with items. Sony Online Entertainment reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate this service or any part hereof in its sole and absolute discretion.

You will not be allowed to transfer any characters to an account that is not yours and that was not originally registered by you.

Guidelines & Restrictions

Players will NOT be able to transfer characters from account to account.
Characters will NOT be allowed to take their vendors or the contents of the vendors. If your character has a vendor obtained as loot via the Star Wars Galaxies™ Trading Card Game, you must destroy that vendor in-game to regain the ability to create that vendor again. That ability will transfer properly. The override function will allow the move to proceed even if those items exist on the character, they will not however be restored.
Characters will NOT be made the owner of any bio-linked or tuned items that were not originally linked / tuned to them.
It is highly recommended that you do not give away or destroy existing items upon requesting a transfer, as it is possible that your move request may be denied. Items deleted or given away in anticipation of a future move will not be replaced.
If you already have two characters on a galaxy you wish to move to, you will need to delete one of the characters to make room for the transferred character.
Player Association Affiliations: We will be removing any Player Association affiliation as part of the character move process.
You will not be able to login to your character for 2 hours after the character has been transferred.
All approved requests will be processed when reasonably practicable to do so. SOE reserves the right to deny any attempted request to transfer in its sole and absolute discretion for any reason or no reason.
The Free Character Transfer Service process cannot be used to move more than one character; if you would like to move multiple characters to multiple Galaxies, you will need to log in to each character separately and go through the character transfer process.
If you attempt to transfer characters in violation of these guidelines and restrictions, any laws, the Software License and Limited Warranty, the Terms of Use for Star Wars Galaxies or the Rules and Policies (for instance, attempting to transfer characters from another person's account or to or from an account purchased by or for you or given to you where you are not the original registered user of that account), the characters will not be moved, your request will not be processed or approved and your account(s) will be subject to review and appropriate disciplinary action taken.
Character names are not guaranteed on galaxy-to-galaxy transfers. If the character's name has already been used on the galaxy you wish to move to, you will be able to enter a new name in the field provided (subject to the terms and conditions of the Character Naming Policy).
To perform a server transfer your character must be located on one of the original 10 ground planets at the time of your transfer request. The original 10 ground planets are: Corellia, Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor, Lok, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Tatooine, and Yavin 4.
Any and all items are not guaranteed to transfer correctly.
