Hier laatste en heetste gossip !!!
was able to get into the floor 2 hrs before everyone else. Went to the SOE online booth, SWG had a demo set up.

What I saw was a GCW demo centered in Rori. The way it was explained I was viewing the 2nd part of a 3 part event.

Let me just say it was rather cool looking (too bad can't turn my graphics up like them lol). It was squads of NPC's fighting it out, ATAT (that looked rather funny, it was bugged and looked like a puppet being pulled by strings). The story line goes something like the empire is building/testing a new weapon and the rebels are trying to stop them (or take it from them, can't remember which). It's an event that is unlocked by the players on the server supposedly. When all the quests have been done the event gets a date when it starts. I was assured each part of the event will be announced before it goes live and more than likely on a date where everyone will get a shot to particpate (so those of us that work could try it out). I was told they are expecting 100's of players........I'm still not convinced they can actually do this but according them using Rori it's possible.

Now the ending of the demo you'll never guess what happens..............................

The city they use on Rori completely BLOWS UP and becomes a waistland rofl. It seriously looked cool. You all asked for a PvP battleground, well after the event completes YOU HAVE IT. Some little things I forgot to mention are new looted weapons/armor that can be aquired that is tied to the event (maybe it's tied to the quests you do here, not sure). Either way it was a cool looking event, my only concern is each part will only happen once. If you miss it, you miss it. Wish it was more like the old Village where it resets the event after it concludes. Maybe an option would be to let each phase in the event (which there are three) take 3-4 weeks. Recycle the event every 3 months sounds pretty good to me although I think the whole point of this event is just really give everyone a grand battleground to have PvE PVP (my mistake) battles.

Oh and after the destruction of the city its pretty cool, you can go into destroyed buildings and actually fire from second level. I asked if they were going to allow some kind of snipers in the game because it looked perfect now in this battleground, it's something they are looking at maybe in the expertise skills.
wat dach je van dit:

Galaxies goes ESB?

May 10, 2006 - During our stay with the LucasArts folks today, we had the opportunity to learn a bit more about what the team has in store for their massive massively multiplayer online game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. The big man himself, Julio Torres was on hand to reveal all the cool new changes that are coming with the June update.

The team's focus, according to Julio, is to "polish, enhance and expand" the core experience. Their first step is to roll out the first of many events. In this case, the team is planning the Battle of Restuss. Those of you who are playing the game might be familiar with this city already but there are going to be some big changes coming soon.

To begin with, the Imperials have started taking over in Restuss and the Rebels are intent on stopping them from consolidating their power. Furthermore, rumor has it that the Imperials have developed a super compact power source. It's small enough to fit in a backpack yet powerful enough to run an entire Death Star. Naturally, the Rebels want to sabotage this project at any cost.

Restuss will become the site of a weeks-long battle between Rebel and Imperial players that will have a lasting and significant impact on the game world. It might play out a little differently on each of the servers but, having seen what happens at the end of the battle, it's well worth it for the players to take part in the action. Once the battle is completed, Restuss will be changed forever and will open up entirely new content and plenty of high end loot for veteran players.

Along with the event, the team is hoping to add a bit more profession differentiation so that characters of the same profession will be able to stand out a bit more. That was one of our complaints of the recent NGE, so we're anxious to see exactly what the team has in mind.

More !!

OK. Enough of role playing my alter ego! Today at E3 I met with Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and spoke to them about an upcoming patch to their popular Star Wars Galaxies Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG). Patch 29 will provide a new quest and a new twist to the ongoing battle of good and evil on Rori. In the city of Restuss, the Empire will test a new power source that can power a Super Star Destroyer, but is only the size of a backpack. Rebels and Imperials will fight it out to unfold an event that will change the face of Restuss for ever! There will be new armor that looks like a cross between composite armor and Mandalorian. I have a video of the battle in this new scenery that I will make available ASAP, as well as a blow by blow run through via podcast with Grant McDaniel - the Producer of Star Wars Galaxies, SOE. Until then, check out the image above. It is a teaser that I put together using screenshots from a battle that will arise from this new patch. I created it using Comic Book Creator (thanks to Ning Wong at PlanetWide Comics for providing this great application).

Interview Jullio Torres op E3 over battle of Restuss

Galactic News Sevice update: Imperial forces have instilled martial law in the streets of Restuss on the Nabooian moon of Rori. Rebel forces are expected to attack en masse. Forced evacuations of all civilians are currently underway. Stay tuned for more updates.

Developers usually reserve E3 for anouncing the completion of new games, expansions or updates - things they've been busy creating. Over at LucasArts, on the other hand, E3 2006 is a time to announce what they've been planning to destroy. As in demolish, blow to smithereens, reduce to rubble.

Bye-bye, Restuss.

According to producer Julio Torres, the latest update for SWG, which will be released soon after E3 closes, involves a server-wide event pitting Imperial and Rebel forces head-to-head in a battle to decide the fate of a city.

"There's a master plan here," Torres said. "This year, we're focusing on polishing the experience. We're not doing an expansion in order to polish, expand and enhance what we already have. We made some fundamental changes to the game, we need to let the dust settle and we need to polish the [game] so that people can effectively have the experience expected out of Star Wars Galaxies."

That experience will include a definite escalation in the Galactic Civil War, highlighted by the Imperial occupation of the peaceful city of Restuss, where, rumor has it, the Empire has concealed a device capable of controlling a Star Destroyer, but small enough to fit in a person's pocket. Rebel forces are expected to attempt to steal the device, resulting in a earth-shaking battle through the streets of the city, complete with large Rebel dropships, AT-STs, AT-ATs and untold ground troops.

All of this action takes place over the course of several weeks, with forces on both sides escalating the conflict unil the final battle in the city itself.

Normally, to avoid spoilers, the story would end there, but one enterprising E3 attendee has already posted a video of the demo from the LucasArts booth, so the outcome of all this conflict is painfully obvious. During the course of the battle, the device in question explodes with enough force to reduce most of Restuss to rubble.

Fortunately, that's not the end. According to Torres, the rubble of Restuss becomes home to whole new groups of NPCs with new quests and new adventures to share.

"We're still going to update like we always have," Torres said, "but they're going to be particularly detailed and really polish the experience and enhance the Galactic Civil War."

And the battle of Restuss isn't a one-shot deal. More live events are planned, especially ones in which players and their actions wil determine the outcomes.

In the end, this new update heralds a much-needed step forward in the mostly stagnant GCW, and future updates promise even more epic content, with roles for characters of all classes.
Interresant !
