Bron: http://www.stellariswiki.com/

You will start the game with your home planet, a free spaceport, a small fleet, a constructor ship and a science ship. You will be presented with a brief history of your people depending on your choices during race creation

Your home planet is the only source of your economic income at the start. Take a look at your starting planet by clicking on it. The most interesting tab here is "surface", where you can see your pops working on various tiles generating resources. These are Energy Credits.png energy, used mostly for maintenance, Minerals.png minerals, used for building nearly everything, and Food.png food, a local resource used to feed your pops and for speeding up growth. For most, there is not much you need to do right now for your planetary economy.

Colonizing

Sooner or later, you will want to start colonizing other planets. This is done by researching the corresponding societal technology, building a colony ship and sending it to an eligible planet. Initially, you will only be able to colonize your home world type or gaia planets. Luckily, you are almost guaranteed to start near a bunch of planets habitable by your people in nearby systems.

One word of caution for early colonization is that they tend to pay slowly. Colony ships cost a high amount of Minerals.png minerals to produce, and an equally large amount of Energy Credits.png energy to maintain both before and a a full year after colonizing. At the end of the process, you will have a shiny new planet production not much better than a single mining/research stations until you start having more pops (which can take a while), and even then you need to pay additional cost to construct production buildings first.

However, planets expand your borders without Influence.png influence cost, unlike frontier outpost. Therefore, you will be able to grab resource rich systems with planets, which do not have an effective limit. Ironically, borders are the most important thing planets produce in the early game.

Space monsters are special gigantic lifeforms inhabiting certain systems, some even mastering FTL travel. Although possessing ability to defend themselves, they are usually non-aggressive at the start. Upon finishing associated research on space monsters, you will receive a message and perhaps an event chain that is tailored to your empire ethos. Interaction with them mostly involves research or combat.

Space faring empires

You are (most likely) not alone in your quest for the stars, and various AI controlled empires will be competing or collaborating with you throughout your journey. AI empires are chosen from predefined races or randomly generated. As would be expected, you can either choose to peacefully coexist, befriend and trade, or downright conquer them. Stellaris provides some basic diplomatic actions corresponding the desired form of interaction. For friendly interactions, embassies provide a monthly boost to relations value, which will help enabling further possibilities such as trade and alliances. On the other hand, if no friendly interaction is desired or possible, rivalries can be declared. Although rivalries provide other benefits like relationship bonus with empires having mutual rivals, it is primarily good for boosting Influence.png influence in the early game. Both embassies and rivalries are limited to 3 unless modified by other factors.

For successful diplomacy, one should understand that AI reception wildly differ based on their chosen ethos and a related personality that describes their goals and general tendencies. For instance, it is harder to have friendly interactions with a xenophobic empire. One should respect these differences and adapt strategy accordingly, for instance begin military research and buildup earlier if near a dangerous personality.

Depending on your setting, you may also encounter some AI empires with "advanced start". This means that they will likely already possess several colonies and extra resources at the start of the game. They would be much stronger than you at the start. This does not spell immediate doom, and you will most probably have time to catch up.

Fallen empires

Fallen empires are vastly more powerful AI empires characterized by once again their insane power and also relative inactivity. They immediately contact you upon seeing your ship. They each have one particular obsession, readily seen from the diplomatic screen. It is generally risky trying to provoke them in anyway in the early game.

Primitives/Pre-sentients

Finally, you will also like find vastly less powerful AI "empires". These are either pre-sentient races ripe for uplifting or sentient races in various stages of development. Interacting with them are usually expensive but fun activity with a long reward cycle. To keep track of them, go to the "contact" UI and filter for pre-FTL.
