Europa Universalis V is net als de voorgangers een grootschalige strategiegame waarbij de speler een land door de eeuwen heen bestuurt en managet. De game begint in 1337 en duurt ongeveer 500 jaar, dus tot maximaal 1837, al is er nog geen eindpunt bekendgemaakt. In de trailer is in ieder geval een Napoleontische veldslag te zien, vermoedelijk ergens in de late achttiende of begin negentiende eeuw. In het spel maakt de speler zes Ages door, namelijk The Age of Tradition, Renaissance, Discovery, Reformation, Absolutism en Revolution.
Deze sla ik ook over te veel van deze games en spelen ze te weinig ( en er moeten eerst 5 uitbreiding bij zitten voor de af is)
